Shu-Han HSU

徐書涵

台灣當代藝術家，1996年出生於台灣台北，主要創作形式為油彩平面繪畫，關注社會中的性別角色，以及個體與群體的關係，其中以少女和兔子作為主要的敘事符號，承載著生物與文化意涵的雙重象徵，以此闡述它們與女性特質之間的微妙共通性，探討和隱喻當代女性複雜的心理和社會現象。現居住、創作於台北，為專職的藝術創作者。

Born in Taipei, Taiwan in 1996, Shu-Han HSU graduated from the National Taiwan Normal University with a master's degree in Fine Arts. Shu-Han HSU primarily works with oil painting. Her practice explores gender roles in society, the relationship between the individual and the collective, and the complex psychological states experienced by women through growth, observation, and social expectations. Her visual language often includes girls, rabbits, uniforms, dolls, and soft objects. Through images that appear sweet, cute, and harmless, she reveals the unease, repression, and contradictions hidden beneath the surface.

Rabbits move through her various series as a recurring symbolic vocabulary in different forms. They embody biological sensitivity and vulnerability, while also responding to cultural imaginations of cuteness, docility, and the state of being observed. In this way, the rabbit forms a corresponding and symbiotic relationship with the image of the girl.

Characterized by soft tones, fragmented bodies, and open-ended compositions, Shu-Han HSU’s work begins from personal lived experience and continues to examine how contemporary femininity is shaped by the social gaze, as well as how ideals of beauty become processed, distributed, and consumed. In recent years, while continuing to deepen her painting practice, she has gradually expanded her work into spatial and installation forms, seeking to extend the psychological atmosphere and visual language of her paintings into a field that can be physically perceived by the viewer.
